Clumpy Lashes? Here's What You're Doing Wrong

Mascara should be the hero of your beauty routine, but if you're struggling with clumpy lashes, it can feel more like a villain. We’ve all been there: you apply mascara in the hopes of achieving long, voluminous lashes only to end up with a spidery, clumpy mess that’s anything but flattering. But don't worry! If your lashes are looking less than perfect, it could be because of a few simple mistakes that are easy to fix.

Laura Mercier's Caviar Extravagant Mascara is all about effortless volume, lift, and length thanks to its buildable formula and distinctive brush design. However, like anything else, applying this mascara correctly is essential to getting the most out of it.

1. Stop Layering Too Much at Once!

Putting on too much mascara at once is one of the most frequent causes of clumpy lashes. Caviar Extravagant Mascara can be built up, but it's best to apply layers gradually to prevent overload. Applying too much mascara too quickly will result in clumpiness.

The Fix: Apply a single light coat first. Before applying additional layers, give it a few seconds to dry a little. This eliminates the clumps and gives you all that luxurious length and volume! Take your time; good things (like gorgeous lashes) come to those who wait! You can continue to build until you get the look you want!

2. You’re Not Using the Right Technique

Clumps may start to form if you're simply sweeping the wand across your lashes, as you may be missing a few spots. Every lash from root to tip should be covered with mascara; proper application makes all the difference.

The Fix: Apply the "wiggle and comb" method! Wiggling the brush gently from side to side, begin at the base of your lashes and work your way up to the tips. This keeps clumps from forming and guarantees that each lash is coated evenly. The outcome? Gorgeous, maximally volumized lashes that are separated.

3. You're Excessively Using the Product

It can be difficult to achieve the desired effects if you're not using the proper mascara brush. Fortunately, the special clover-shaped brush in Caviar Extravagant Mascara is made to separate and define each lash while providing the volume and lift you desire.

The Fix: Make the most of this specially made brush! While the shorter bristles aid in lifting and lengthening your lashes, the longer bristles are ideal for adding volume. Additionally, the brush's three chambers aid in loading the mascara, eliminating the need for frequent wand dips between coats. Every time, you'll get smooth, even coverage.

4. You’re Not Removing Your Mascara Properly

Overnight use of mascara can cause buildup, which can cause your lashes to appear clumpy and adhere to one another in the morning. For your lashes to remain healthy and your mascara to look fantastic the following day, proper removal is essential.

The Fix: Use Laura Mercier’s Soothing Eye Makeup Remover. After giving it a shake to start the bi-phase formula, moisten a cotton pad and gently rub it over your eyes. This leaves your lashes soft and prepared for a new application by eliminating all traces of mascara without pulling on them.
